update..?!

ive been at msu for a week and a half and it feels like its been years. very bizarre. but im having a lot of fun, and meeting a lot of awesome jazz players. i also found out a while ago that i was placed in jazz band 1, which is apparently the best big band in the school. were going out to a few different places for gigs this year, one of which is New York City. (O.O) so i guess im singing in front of a big band at one of the best jazz clubs in new york. REALLY excited for that. and surprised. its insane. were going to detroit three times too. never been there, so that will be cool. also will be participating in a master class with trumpet giant wynton marsalis-- i mean it just doesnt get much bigger than that. its a little scary to think i probably will sing in front of him.

its been a very strange combination of feeling like this was a very comfortable step and feeling completely disoriented- it switches off. but the fact that there are all these great musicians around really helps me feel at home...classes have been great so far too. one of them has involved primarily a jam session. another involved doodling on the piano. another involved listening to duke ellington's nutcracker suite, which just blew me out of the water, among other tunes. its just awesome. i know its right for me. im taking 9 courses, and i dont know whether thats too much or not yet, but its only worth 15 credits. such is the life of the music major. ill be busy as hell this year-- and loving it.
